Environmental Stewardship

Canada Pipe Co., master distributor for Clow Water Systems Company takes its commitment to the environment seriously and our policy is very clear. We are committed to compliance, protection, and continual improvement. Clow Water Systems leads the way in environmental protection. Since 2002, Clow has decreased its emissions to the atmosphere by an average of 23% every year! Clow continues to focus on being green and minimizing their waste to the landfills. In 2006 alone, Clow recycled over 140,000 tons of material. Even their own product is recyclable and made from recycled materials.

Clow has recently invested in environmental projects including installation of a RingJet Scrubber, water-based paint conversion, use of environmentally-friendly synthetic gas to replace over 75% of their natural gas consumption and environmentally-friendly product substitution. The RingJet scrubber was installed in 1999. An add-on to their existing scrubber, this installation was the first of its kind in the United States. It allowed Clow to achieve MACT level particulate emissions, seven years before legislation made it a requirement. A conversion to water-based paint eliminated more than a 100 tons of volatile organic compounds from being released to the environment every year. Recently, Clow has partnered with Intrinergy, LLC to convert the majority of our natural gas consumption over to a synthetic gas derived from scrap automobile tires - another first for the iron pipe industry and the United States.

Currently Clow is addressing many of the unique environmental challenges faced by the foundry industry with a comprehensive environmental management system. This system is based, in part, on the International Organization for Standards (ISO) 14000 group of environmental standards. ISO 14000 standards are internationally recognized as an accepted framework for environmental management, measurement, evaluation and auditing. Meeting these standards allows them to provide their community with a foundation for life with clean, safe, dependable drinking water. Clow strives to improve performance every day, so that they are part of protecting the environment for generations to come.
