Amerex gives back on the Cahaba River for Earth Week
May 10, 2026
Recently, the Amerex team traded their desks for paddles and spent the day giving back at the Cahaba River National Wildlife Refuge by partnering with the Cahaba River Coalition for Earth Week. Wading through the river and canoeing to hard-to-reach areas together to remove debris to help protect one of Alabama’s most beautiful natural resources.
Along the way, the team collected everything from Styrofoam, car vent clip air fresheners, plastic bottles and soda cans, and even a lost G.I. Joe toy. Small items, but powerful reminders of how everyday litter can have a lasting and harmful impact on our environment. Despite the amount of trash uncovered, the day was also filled with moments of appreciation and awe. They were lucky enough to witness the very first blooms of the iconic Rocky Shoals Spider Lily of the season, a powerful reminder of why protecting this ecosystem matters.
Beyond the cleanup itself, the experience sparked meaningful conversations within the team about sustainability and how we can all do more to reduce single-use waste in our daily lives. McWane and Amerex are proud to play a small part in preserving the natural beauty of our community and are grateful for opportunities like this to serve together.
